Medical Malpractice is a worldwide problem, but it seems to worse in the US. There are some that say that there is just more reported in the United States than in other countries. To be fair, Europe and Canada both have departments set aside to research, explore, and defend all medical malpractice lawsuits. In full honesty, their healthcare systems tend to be more cohesive, more patient friendly, which works out in the numbers of medical malpractice cases. Simply stated there are less cases of being overlooked, less cases of invasive surgeries, and less cases of elective surgeries.

Look at the facts

Now let's look on a country by country basis. It seems like US is in the headlines a lot, but is there a reason behind it. First, we need to be clear, medical malpractice isn't just doctors making mistakes in the operating room. Medical malpractice also goes under the umbrella of neglect and misdiagnosis in some countries.

The Philippines

The Philippines is really strict on their doctors. They do not mess around when it comes to guilty doctors. Once a doctor has been proven guilty, they face fines, inspections, and monitoring to ensure that it won't happen again. If it is a repeat situation, they won't allow the doctor to practice any longer. So maybe they have lower incidents because they have lower tolerance.

Canada and the UK

Both of these countries are unique in that they have a board that oversees all doctors. Before a file is sent to court, it is reviewed by them first. If they see that there is a claim or that the complaint is justified, they allow it to go to court. Then the doctors are basically marked. It has to be declared as public knowledge once they are found guilty. In Canada, the winning party must pay part of the losing party's legal fees in addition to any thing the court requires. It keeps the unnecessary law suits down.

Medical Malpractice and Options

No matter where you are, if you are a victim of medical malpractice, you should not be afraid to speak up. Medical malpractice is not fair. It can be avoided and it needs to be done away with completely. If you would like to learn more about medical malpractice, your rights, or how to file then you should seek out a team that you can trust to give you honest legal advice.

When you speak up about a doctor who has taken advantage of his power, then you take his power away. You become the voice for other victims that do not have a voice. It is a brave thing to do. It is something that you should seriously consider and talk about before you file a claim. You will need a team that understands medicine and the legal steps that you can take. You are not alone in your fight. Most often, when one victim has the strength to come forward, many others begin to follow. You are in control of your future.
