When We Trust the Wrong Doctors

When We Trust the Wrong Doctors

Doctors are supposed to be trusted adults. We give them our bodies and we expect them to tell us what is wrong and how to fix it. We expect them to take the time to learn our history, our allergies, and our preferences. We expect them to know about drug interactions before we take the drugs they prescribe. We expect the to always have our best interest in mind when they talk to us. We trust them with our lives. We trust them with our children's lives. We trust them because they have the training that we don't have. For the most part, doctors don't let us down. However, there are occasions when the person that we have entrusted our life with hurts us. This is medical malpractice.

Medical Malpractice Examples

We know the horror stories. We have all heard about that guy that had to have abdominal surgery and someone left a tool in his stomach. We know about the woman who had chest surgery and ended up with a towel in her chest. Yes, this is medical malpractice. There are more than that though. For instance, if you have cancer and your diagnosis is delayed due to your doctor not sending you to the right specialist. Or if you get the wrong medications from a nurse while in the hospital and it causes you physical harm.

Basically, if you doctor fails to diagnose due to his time constraints or misdiagnoses due to his negligence and you have physical or emotional damage, then it could be medical malpractice. However, it is not malpractice if you get a misdiagnosis if the doctor has done everything in his or her power to ensure that the test results are correct. If he or she does everything he can to ensure that your care is the best he has to offer, then medical malpractice is not likely.

The Proof

It can be difficult to prove that you have been neglected medically by your doctor, hospital, or nurse. It can often take many years of pouring over medical records for proof to become solid. In reality, you need a great medical malpractice lawyer to help you to navigate the hectic course. You need someone who really understand medical and a doctor's responsibility. Your accusations should be taken seriously because it could cost someone his or her life. However, your doctor's lawyer is also going to be fighting hard because you are challenging them on a personal and professional level. If proven correct, your case could cost them their job, their way of life, and possibly even their freedom.
